How To Protect Kids in Our Culture
I seems like culture has gone to far. I am startled almost daily by things that I read, see, and hear. I wont encourage the “family bubble” or a “holy huddle” but I would like to share some advice about raising kids in our society. Let me share some starting facts with you:
Running for a Louisiana Senate is, is a Porn Star named Stormy Daniels, and she might actually win.
A recent survey published by American Demographics indicates that 72% of men and 55% of women admit to swearing in public.
Children today watch on average three to four hours of television every day. It is suggested by the American Academy of Pediatrics that children should watch no more that two hours of television every day. Even if you give your children a limit of two hours of television each day, they will have witnessed an estimated 8,000 murders and at least 100,000 acts of violence by the time they have graduated from elementary school.
What should a parent do in the middle of this immeasurable onslaught of negative influence in their children’s life? The most important thing that a parent can do is to ensure that their are positive influences offering wisdom and truth into the life of their child.
Your local church’s Children’s Ministry is an amazing place to look for aid and partnership in these trying times. Parents are looking to provide their children help as well as answers to assuage their needs. In our culture your children are daily pummeled with these negative influences and they have a truly immense need for some individuals to step in and provide them with the help they need.
Here are a few specific ways that your local Children’s Minsitry can help. They can create an atmosphere where parents are able to introduce their child to Christ, which will also provide a foundation for the parents to be the primary Spiritual Leader in their child’s life.
A Children’s Ministry provides parents with many free resources with which they can easily introduce and practice at home. While also giving them tools to help counteract all of the negative influences in today’s culture.
A Children’s Ministry can help to encourage parents to limit the time their children spend watching television, and give guidance on choosing shows that offer positive examples of caring, helping and being considerate.
Parents should be kept aware of all the different media platforms that are currently influencing their children.
As leaders in our church and specifically Childrens Ministry we can make a difference and have a positive influence in the lives of these families.
