Praying Effectively
Have you ever felt guilty about asking God for something feeling that you were unworthy, or undeserving? Have you ever had questions that needed answering regarding areas of your life? Have you ever had obstacles to overcome or doors you needed to be opened? The Bible clearly shows us how to receive the things we need. As a matter of fact, Jesus, Himself told us what we need to do to receive the blessings that God has for each and every one of us. Jesus said,
“Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks will receive, and anyone who seeks will find, and the door will be opened to those who knock. Would any of you who are fathers give your son a stone when he asks for bread? Or would you give him a snake when he asks for a fish? Bad as you are, you know how to give good things to your children. How much more, then, will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”(NLT Matthew 7:7-11).
Jesus tells us to do three things. Ask, Seek, and Knock. Many times we fail to get the answers we need or have our needs met simply because we neglect to do what Jesus said to do. Ask, He said and you will receive. Seek, and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you. He goes on to point out that God, our heavenly Father, wants to give us good things. God wants to bless us!
In order to receive the blessings God has for us, we must spend time with Him, including Him in every part of our lives. We must talk to Him and ask Him for the things we need, believing and trusting that He will supply all of our needs (Philippians 4:19). We also have to seek Him, not half-heartedly every now and then, but diligently each and every day, believing in Him and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
When we truly start seeking God on a daily basis, including Him in our lives, acknowledging His presence, trusting Him to take care of us, and asking Him for His guidance, then we will begin see our prayers answered and our needs met. We will begin to know and hear His voice and He will lead us in the direction that we need go.
Remember, God loves you. He wants and has the very best for you. And it’s all yours for the asking. So go ahead, Ask, Seek and Knock. He is waiting to open the door and pour out His goodness on you.
