What’s The Difference Between Catholicism And Christianity?

Hi guys. How is everyone doing? Anyway i am having serious thoughts of practicing the Catholic faith but i was also thinking about Christianity. Are there are differences because it is the same God and Jesus Christ? Thank you in advance for feedback.

Catholicism is a branch of Christianity. I think you mean protestant, there only a few petty differences. One being the lord’s prayer is slightly different, Catholics believe that the bread and wine become Christ rather than just symbolizing him.

  2. Timmy993 Says:

Catholicism IS Christian. You’ll hear from some that it isn’t but that’s a position of arrogance and self-righteousness.
If you’re seriously wanting to learn about it, there are classes offered at most Catholic parishes that will explain exactly what its teachings are. Then you can decide whether or not to convert. No pressure. I suggest you give a local church office a call and ask about the classes.
Edit: Catholics aren’t “idol worshippers”. One wonders why this particular piece of fiction gets so much traction when it’s patently obvious that nobody can possibly discern what’s in the heart of someone at worship — whether they’re in the vicinity of a statue or not.
Methinks they “protest” a wee bit too much. Idolatry is putting any creation, or anything man has fabricated, above God Himself. And that includes the binding, paper and ink of the Good Book, folks. Almost everyone has “idols” (for some it’s what is sitting in their driveway; if you doubt that, see what happens when the tiniest speck mars the lovingly waxed finish). But then pointing a finger at Catholic statues means they don’t have to look in the mirror.

There is no difference between Christianity and Catholicism. This is one and the same.
If you want to find differences to compare then you need to look into Protestant and Catholic faiths as these are different. Basically, Catholics believe in a Pope and Protestants don’t. There are thousands of variations on the Christian ideal. Why not try exploring the various forms of Christian faith?
If you are interested and want to believe then you should broaden your horizons and maybe include all faiths.
Nearly all of them teach that there is one god and that he is in fact the same creator of the heavens and the earth.
Don’t swallow all the doctrine you hear, dissect, read, discuss, learn and open your mind. As long as you’re respectful, no one will mind you asking questions.

Catholicism is a branch of Christianity. However, it was one of the earliest and was introduced as a political tool of unification. Many were executed by the protestant for their belief in the catholic church as being the ‘one true faith’. The break a way of the protestant churches was also driven by political needs not faith.

  5. BigCheez Says:

That’s like asking “What’s the difference between a Doberman and a Dog?” Contrary to what some believe, Catholics are Christian. Just another branch. But, like with every other Christian denomination, there are some differences.
Although, I would suggest that you go to the various services, find the denomination that fits you best, then talk to their pastor, minister, or priest for suggestions to proceed from there.

A while ago Cherie Blair did a documentary on whether Christianity would survive the millenium…. Interesting, She Is Catholic and so is her husband, The Rt Hon. Tony Blair.
Cathloics are idol worshipers, they have translated the scripture so differently i cannot find most of there traditions in the Old or the New testament……
They do seem to be on the front line when it comes to the Christian Moral defence standing for key biblical laws/Rules, such as abortion, against homsexuality, these are so key they could destro y the church and also destroy what most people fail to recognise as the fragile position believers, seekers including new and old converts hold in the eyes of The Almighty, and when i say almighty i mean God.
it is God we are to impress and show our allegiance to not homosexuals not the desire of ordinary people.
i cannot see why the Catholic church would choose to stand so stubbornly the way it does against the teachings of God when they are so clear in the bible for the whole world to see.
It is tradition, i think, the jews are stuck in tradition from what i know. its not pleasant.

  7. ??lly Says:

None. 75% of the world’s Christians are members of the Catholic Church. The Orthodox and Armenian Churches make up a lot of the rest. The differences are political and are mainly about who’s the Patriarch. Then come the Anglicans who believe themselves to be both Catholic and Reformed – you won’t notice much difference here apart from a wider selection of gender and sexual preferences among the clergy.
The smallest group are the Protestant denominations which include the American Calvinist churches. They’re the ones who think they’re the only ones who can be called Christian. It’s a bit like the mother at the school march past who said her little Johnny was the only one in step.

  8. HOPE 4 THE FUTURE: Says:

What is interesting is most don’t realize that Catholicism is not a religion, it is the title of Christianity. In all reality Catholic and Christian are one and the same. Catholic is an Adjective, it is Greek and means “Universal” and ended up having deeper meaning “One and Only,” and to be used as an appellative—a “proper name” for the Church. This appellative use did not become common until the fourth century. Saint Ignatius first used the Adjective ‘???????ó? / katholikos’ (Catholic). He did this in a letter he wrote about the year 110 Anno Domini, and in the course of the next two centuries the name caught on, and came into general use. By that time there were a few heresies in vogue, like Arianism, and “Catholic” became a name to distinguish the true Church from error and schism. Christianity used to be One Faith, and in the 15th century it became many faiths (which is obviously against the Word of God, for God Decreed there to be “One Lord, One Faith, and One Baptism,” He also decreed And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd. [John 10:16], AND I WILL SET UP ONE SHEPHERD OVER THEM (That would be the Pope), and he shall feed them, even my servant David: he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. [Ezechiel 34:23] refer also to [Matth. 16:15-19]).
I have spoken to some Protestants who said they were Christian, I asked are they Catholic, they replied no, and would not give me the denomination with who they were associated with. They Obviously don’t know their history. So if we look at it, and if Protestants are in fact Christians, then that would mean that Lutheran, Anabaptist, Anglican, Mennonites, Calvinist, Presbyterian, Congregational, Baptist, etc. would be Christian, correct? Because Protestant is a title as Catholic is, Protestant is as the word suggest, it is those who protest against the Church Christ founded. Can any see the problem here? Does Lutheran doctrine coexist in perfect harmony with Anabaptist doctrine, does it coexist in perfect harmony with Mennonites doctrine, or Anglican doctrine? In other words do these Protestant groups have the same doctrine? If the answer is no, then Protestantism is not of One Faith, does that not go against what God Decreed? There are then Denominations and sub denomination within these denominations, a perfect example Church of Christ was founded 1836 AD by Warren Stone & Alexander Campbell in Kentucky, which became a denomination, Church of God in Christ founded 1895 AD, by Various Churches of God, in Arkansas is a sub-denomination of Church of Christ. This is because there was a group who did not agree with the doctrine and decided to make there own.

All Catholics are Christian, not all Christians are Catholic. Now if you’re looking for specific differences between the two, Catholicism has Seven Sacraments while other Protestant (That is those against the Catholic Church) denominations have only five or six Sacraments. in the Catholic Church, priests or pastors as some people call them do not marry while in the other denominations they do. Those are the biggest differences between the Catholic Church and the Protestant denominations.

  11. Misty Says:

Actually no, it is not the same God and Jesus Christ; for they wanted people to repent of idolatry long ago; as well as worshipping God only; and not inventing ceremonies, rituals, and formalisms that have nothing to do with what He says; nor glorying in mankind. Yet one of these does just that.

  12. Karenita EWTN ((Allecat)) Says:

Catholicism is the first branch Christianity according to the bible. Catholics are Christians. Other Christianity all were branched off of Catholicism because they didn’t like some of the things that were going on in the Church. At the time, the Church had corruption in it, I do admit, and Protestants formed. We also think differently about the Bible. Protestants believe that the Church is the the Church of the Book (they follow the Bible to the letter) and Catholics believe that the Bible is the book of the Church (we follow the Bible, but take it with a grain of salt, like when it said Abraham was 600 year old, but we think that just meant he was very very old). We also have a Pope to act as head of the Church, just like Jesus appointed Peter to run the Church in his earthly absence.

Whats the difference between any monotheist religion??? They all believe in one God they just choose different ways to worship him. Its all much ado about nothing if you ask me. The idea that God has given us this gift of life( it is a gift no doubt) and wants us to spend it on our knees praying to him is ridiculous. If I give a gift a simple thank you is all I really need.

  14. Green Phoenix Says:

Catholicism is Christianity. Catholicism is a branch (denomination) of the Christian religion. There are others such as the Church of England, Methodist, Orthodox. Its just the way the bible is interpreted which is different between the denominations.

Catholics are not only Christians, they are the first Christians. The “difference” is that the other current Christian groups broke off at or after the Protestant Reformation (except for Orthodox). All Christians view God in the same manner the Holy Trinity, all Christians believe that Jesus is God. The Catholic Church dates back to the time of Christ, with Saint Peter being the first Pope. There is much history and tradition within the Church, which I love.

  18. . Says:

Christianity puts, or should put the word of God, the Bible above their own traditions. The Bible claims to be inspired by God. Frequently we are told in its pages that ‘the word of the LORD came to’ a particular prophet ‘and said:…’ Or a vision came from the LORD God or as with Joseph and Jacob dreams that had significance.
When we come to the role of Jesus as the son of God we are told quite clearly in the gospels what happened. But Catholics and other churches influenced by them then conjure up the Trinity. This word does not occur in Scripture neither do the following:
    *Mary the mother of God
    *God the son
*Transubstantiation (bread and wine turning into the actual body and blood of Christ).
*Heaven going. The Scriptures tell us that when you die you cannot praise God. There are a number of verses to this effect. We are told that not even King David, loved of God, is in heaven.
*We are told in the commandments not to make images of men or beasts and bow down before them. Yet there are hundreds if not thousands of images of Mary and Jesus in Spain which are paraded every year and people want just to be able to touch them and bow to them. My sister-in-law was expected to kiss the toe of Mary’s statue in a pleasant town in Spain. In one town there used to be an ‘auction’ whereby the highest bidder giving to the church had to pay money to get the images back into the church.
*So many superstitions about the stigmata etc and images of Mary ‘crying’. Lourdes and healing?
*The Pope claims to be a successor to Jesus in runing the church. The arguement of the size of the ’stones’ Jesus talked about meaning that it was he himself, Jesus. who was head of the church.
*The rich life style of the Pope being totally opposite to the way Jesus conducted his life before his Father.
*The vision which comes in the papers each year? of the Pope on his throne and all the new Cardinals?? prostrated before him. The argument for this being that they are presumably bowing to God through the Pope? Totally foreign to the way Jesus and the Apostles behaved.
*Baptism is for repentant adults in the Scriptures yet baptism/christening services are done for babies and children who have not got old enough to know about sin.
*Priests: There are no Christian priests mentioned in the New Testament. Why? Because we are told that Jesus is our great high priest and mediator who acts on our behalf with his Father.
*Incense: No mention of it in the Christian churches. Once the veil of the Temple was torn from top to bottom there was not the need of sacrifices etc.
*The word church/ecclesia refers to the people not to supposedly marvellous buildings.
*Therefore praying to the dead Mary or the saints is pointless.
I am sure I have probably forgotten something vital, if so I imagine someone else will fill the gap. xx

  19. SpiritRo Says:

    1. Source of Authority. With respect to the Bible, Catholics accept the apocryphal books in addition to the 66 books of the Protestant Bible. They also accept tradition and the teaching of the Catholic Church as authoritative and at least equal to that of the Bible (cf. Mk. 7:8,9,13; Matt. 15:3,6,9; Col. 2:8). With respect to papal infallibility, Catholics believe that ecumenical councils of bishops and the pope are immune from error when speaking ex cathedra about faith and morals (i.e., “from the chair” — by sole virtue of position or the exercise of an office). (And by “infallible,” Catholics mean much more than merely a simple, de facto absence of error — it is positive perfection, ruling out the possibility of error. For more on infallibility, see notes on Vatican II below). In actuality, Roman Catholicism places itself above Scripture; i.e., it teaches that the Roman Catholic Church produced the Bible and that the pope is Christ’s vicar on earth. Catholics also maintain the belief in sacerdotalism — that an ordained Catholic priest has the power to forgive sins (cf. 1 Tim. 2:5).
    2. Jesus Christ. Catholicism teaches that Christ is God, but they, nevertheless, do not believe that Christ’s death paid the full penalty for sin; i.e., they believe that those who qualify for heaven must still spend time in purgatory to atone for sin (cf. Jn. 19: 30; Heb. 10:11,12).
    3. Mary. The Catholic Church gives honor and adoration to Mary that the Scriptures do not; she is readily referred to as “holy,” the “Mother of God,” and has been dubbed the “Co-Redemptrix,” thereby making her an object of idolatrous worship (e.g., the rosary has ten prayers to Mary for each two directed to God). In 1923, Pope Pius XI sanctioned Pope Benedict XV’s (1914-1922) pronouncement that Mary suffered with Christ, and that with Him, she redeemed the human race. And Pope Pius XII officially designated Mary the “Queen of Heaven” and “Queen of the World.” Catholics claim not only that Mary was perfectly sinless from conception, even as Jesus was (doctrine of Immaculate Conception, proclaimed by Pope Pius IX in 1854), but that the reason she never sinned at any time during her life was because she was unable to sin (cf. Lk. 1:46,47; Rom. 3:10,23; 5:12; Heb. 4:15; 1 Jn. 1:8,10). Catholics also believe that Mary was a perpetual virgin (cf. Ps. 69:8; Matt. 1:24,25; 13:54-56; Mk. 6:3; Jn. 7:5), and that she was assumed, body and soul, into heaven (doctrine of Assumption of Mary, declared ex cathedra by Pope Pius XII in November of 1950 — that Mary was raised from the dead on the third day after her death, and anyone who refuses to believe this has committed a mortal sin). The consequence of all this veneration of Mary, in effect, establishes her authority above Christ’s — Rome says, “He came to us through Mary and we must go to Him through her.” All this is so obviously idolatrous, one wonders why Catholics take offense when their religious affections are called cultic.
    4. Salvation. Catholics teach that a person is saved through the Roman Catholic Church and its sacraments, especially through baptism; they do not believe that salvation can be obtained by grace through faith in Christ alone, but that baptism is essential for salvation. Catholics believe that no one outside the Catholic Church can be saved (Unum Sanctum) (cf. Jn. 5:24; Eph. 2: 8,9; Gal. 2:21; Rom. 3:22,23). (See also The Second Vatican Council’s Decree on Ecumenism and the New Catholic Catechism (paras 819 and 846.) They also believe that one’s own suffering can expiate the sin’s of himself and of others, so that what Christ’s suffering was not able to achieve, one can achieve by his own works and the works of others (Vatican II).
    5. Sacraments. Catholics have seven sacraments: baptism, confirmation, Eucharist (mass), penance/reconciliation (indulgences), extreme unction (last rights), marriage, and orders (ordination). Although not even formally decreed until the Council of Florence in 1439, the Council of Trent later declared all to be anathema whom do not hold Rome’s position that it was Christ Himself who instituted these seven sacraments! (The idea behind the sacraments is that the shedding of Christ’s Blood in His death upon the cross is of no value unless it is somehow dispensed and applied “sacramentally” by the Catholic priesthood.) Although Catholics believe that the first five sacraments are indispensable for salvation (because without any one of them, a mortal sin has been committed), baptism is considered the most important. Catholics believe that a person enters into the spiritual life of the Church through baptism; i.e., baptismal regeneration — that a person can be saved through baptism (actually, ‘on the road to salvation,’ because Catholics never know exactly when they are saved). They practice infant baptism because they believe baptism erases original sin (cf. Jn. 3:18).
    6. The Mass. Unknown in the early church, the mass did not become an o

    THE SECRET FROM EXPERT
There have to be a purpose for life otherwise we will miss the peaceful path of happiness to choose what is right & wrong.
    So,
    Spiritually, what is God?
What’s makes God as god? What is God’s Power?
Well, just try to know, what’s makes God as god, the Power, isn’t it? So what the power can do? Ah? Well, it can give the ability to organise all things & it can give the ability to separate everything and most importantly, the Ability to control everything, isn’t it? Isn’t it good? Ah? So, from my hard study & research effort with the help from god, I realized that the ability to control everything, the Power of God is gradually increased in the full amount to use so; The Power of God is always the omnipotent & existed among everything. & The God now is always the same omnipotent for us, who is organised us & we are growing towards perfection. The perfection is the final stage, not the end. & The Power of God, the Ability is the reward for us to control everything in a proper manner, like the true God of goodness. & Everlasting Happiness is the final stage. & it cannot come alone without the final stage perfection of God. & if god always perfect in perfection then there have to be beginning with God for the organizing progress of all things. So, there is No end and also No beginning for all things, including this on going organizing progress. So, we cannot get anything from nothing.
    If you don’t still agree,
Note this: you can use any thing for Good or Bad so, whenever possible If you ask the god for the good reason to give you the ability perfection, because of your obedience, then the God will give you, if the god is good & Almighty.
If you are humble, Please, Pray to know the truth from true God by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit with great faith. Good or bad, Good with bad, we choose both for our life purpose so values are most important, God gave us the rights to do what is right for you & sometimes, things can be right in your point of view but wrong in Public point of view so Basically, we & god can do anything for right reason but just pray about it for the Good Answer and try to do the God’s will first always.
Just think, why so much trouble & pain in this world? Then there is only one reason, without pain, no pleasure, without them, we cannot enjoy this life so always we need them. You use pain & pleasure instead of pain & pleasure use you. I mean the vision of your future should be clear & it have to pull you rather than you have to push so you must be certain to win in order to succeed in your Best job. Keep the photo of your vision, feel it strong enough in your visualizing mind & your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure. & Love is the Ability. We all make mistakes so it is hard to look for star in daylight. So just in faith, it is possible. Like that the faith in true God. & If you think, even expert can be wrong then you have to make the fine research in all most everything so It is hard & some time, it is impossible to achieve so Why we need inappropriate action to find the owner of higher power? So, because of Lack of faith in true God, we do not have the great gift of understanding of things. & All things are spiritually first, to govern by God with glory so closely, Have a look at this world of wonders of yours and then you know the truth, when you listen to your real voice and then Having a strong desire to do the best every day then stick with the best to do your best. & most importantly, try to be grateful for what you have now to get out of fear & then, doing your best & making good people, this is going to make your life winning.
The Law of mercy cannot rob the Law of justice so Justice demands the punishment of our sin but The Law of mercy requires the forgiveness to give to us & God is perfect in perfection so cannot violate his laws so The God provided the way to our salvation to overcome our sin so Jesus Christ sacrifice is much needed to return to live with God, so Jesus Christ is our savior.
Did you make the commitment to find joy in every moment by using your empowering meanings & conscious focus for the needs of your five senses?
Did you make this promise; I will never going to settle less than I can be?
Do you have the must realistic measurable rules, goals & best clear image of what you really want in all aspects of your life?
Breaking down your vision into mini-goals & give must time for them regularly.
Write it down the answers to be more real &
Try to know all the basics to manage your life & Ask: Is it enjoyable? Rather than believing the progress is hard.
The Power is focus; choose wisely & consistently for your greater chance of success. http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=Cpc-t-Uwv1…http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=O061waey5g…

CATHOLICISM IS NOT CHRISTIAN. Here’s why:
Catholicism teaches a false gospel of works (“sacraments”) that leads to eternal hell (Galatians 1:6-9). CATHOLICISM IS NOT CHRISTIAN.
Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with you. Catholicism cannot give you this.
Catholicism = faith + works = no salvation and eternal torment in hell
Christian = faith alone in Jesus for salvation, without our own works added = salvation and eternity in heaven with Jesus! :)
Only faith alone in Jesus saves! Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus! It is impossible to lose or “leave” salvation.
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you will be in heaven, no matter what!
Please pray now: “Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!” You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die. :)
