a) About Meditation

1. First of all understand what meditation is! Meditation consists of the continual flow of thought on one thing. It is the keeping up of one idea alone and resembles the continual flow of oil. This process is called “Dhyana” by Yogis and adoration by Bhaktas.

Concentration is to fix the mind on a point or an object, either internal as in the body or external (eg an image). Meditation is a natural outcome of concentration. In Dhyana the normal thoughts are closed of from the mind and the mind becomes saturated with Divine thoughts and presence.

(b) Find A Place

2. Have a room solely dedicated to meditation and do not allow anybody to enter. This keeps it holy and sanctified. Burn incense in the mornings and evenings and keep an icon of God or your Guru placing your chair in front. Keeping spiritual literature in the room is also good and will raise the resonance level of the room.

In deep meditation the vibrations produces will lodge themselves into the ether of the room. After six months you will feel deeply in peace in the atmosphere of the room. Whenever you feel your mind agitated or disturbed you can sit in the room and repeat a mantra for half an hour. You will feel an immediate change within your being.

By practising this you will feel the calming spiritual influence it has on you. Nothing can compare to a spiritual practice and it will create a holy place in your home.

3. Intensive meditation and solitude are of utmost importance for realizing the Divine Self. A place of pilgrimage, a mountainous scenery, a garden full of flowers, a sacred temple, these are places which help to the attaining of concentration, contemplation and meditation. Find these places when you need to.

4. Find a cool place with a mild climate. This is a must for concentration. As salt melts in water so too will the Sattvic (pure) mind melt in the silence that is brought by meditation with the Absolute.

(c) Find A Time

5. Pull yourself out of bed at 4 in the morning! This time is favourable for spiritual and devotional practice. The mind is pure and calm in the mornings after having slept. Like a blank sheet of paper, it is void of the normal worldly impressions.

The mind is easily moulded at this hour as the atmosphere is filled with light and purity. If you do not feel to take a bath or shower you can wash your hands, feet and your face with cold water. This suffices.

6. Always choose the part of the day or night when your mind is clear and when you are least likely to be disturbed. The mind will be calmer and more malleable at this time.

7. Meditate on Sundays as the mind is more at ease on holidays. You will also find that your meditation improves if you only drink milk and eat fruit. Also fasting helps tremendously in the attainment of focused meditation.

(d) Where To Focus

8. Focus gently in the heart area or between the eyes in the forehead. Keep your eyes closed.

9. The mind is placed in Ajna Chakra in Trikuti. The mind is easily tamed by focusing on Trikuti. Devotional types (Bhaktas) should focus in the heart area and yogis should concentrate on Ajna Chakra.

10. At the top of the head there is an energy center called Sahasrara which is another great place to concentrate. Vedantins focus in this point. Some yogis focus on their nose tips (Nasikagra Drishti). Tenaciously stick to one place of focus for the quickest results.

If you decide to concentrate on the heart area, stay with it and don’t change it. If you are a devotional type you can let your guru find the center you should focus upon, else you can find it yourself.

(e) What to eat

11. Keep a pure light diet. Over filling the stomach with bread, rice and vegetables will make you sleepy and interferes with your spiritual practice. Solely dieting on milk will make the body feel light and pure.

By following these guidelines you will find yourself being able to sit at ease in yoga positions for long periods of time, up til hours. If you feel weak though, you can take some milk and rice. Those with an intense program of keeping lectures and other spiritual activities should have a solid diet though.

(f) Yoga Positions

12. Asana (yogic posture) steadies the body; Bandhas (contractions) and Mudras (attitudes) strengthen the mind; Pranayama (breath control) makes the body feel light; Nadi -suddhi (purification of the energy paths) produces steadiness of the mind. Having acquired these qualifications you now have to fix your mind on the Absolute. Then meditation will be easy and will make you actually make happy.

Yoga positions are recommended to become good at meditation. The lotus pose and Siddhasana are a must in meditation. The most sublime meditations come from adhering to sexual continence or brahmacarya as it is called. This is the withholding of the seminal fluids in the case of men and of the menstrual fluids in the case of women. Brahmacarya is especially facilitated through the practises of Paschimottanasana, Brahmacaryasana and Shirshasana, but all yogic sadhana is beneficial to this purpose.

Goddess Kali, First Of The 10 Wisdom Goddesses Mahavidya

Kali is the first in line of the fascinating Tantric pantheon of wisdom Goddesses, the MahaVidya. She has black skin, many arms, glaring eyes, wears a necklace of severed heads and dances on the body of Shiva (the masculine principle of the universe). Her tongue hangs out of her mouth dripping blood while laughing loudly at the attachment of humans. A terrifying sight indeed.

This gruesome iconography hides a lot of very deep symbolism. Our coming death is symbolized in the severed heads around her neck. The polar aspect of the universe is represented by the transcendent (dead) body of shiva who is the masculine principle while she herself symbolizes the wild uncontroleable feminine energy. Kali also symbolizes wild and dangerous erotic energy which is this aspect we will go more in depth with in this article.

Goddess Kali – Her Erotic Nature

We are drawn to the mysterious. Kali is like a dangerous sensual woman luring us, teasing us, and daring us to break out of the box created by our daily routine and to fully awaken our latent potential. Kali is powerful like a fully vital and sensual woman, who has the ability of fully enjoying life, her energy and knows the power of love.

Egoistic minds which are stiff and fearful cannot encompass such great feminine sexuality. Down through the ages men have feared this feminine power and the female power has been suppressed for centuries. As we fear the erotically awakened powerful woman, we fear life itself which is feminine and expansive.

Kali is portrayed as so terrifying to mock this huge fear we have inside of life.

Goddess Kali And Kundalini

According to the spiritual tradition of Tantra, our spiritual evolution starts with a profound awakening of our potential energy, in tantra called Kundalini, stored at the base of our spines. This energy is correlated with our sexual energy. True transformation starts when we awaken this energy and channel it to higher centers of consciousness in our being.

The energy is traditionally symbolized as a snake which awakens when we start playing the flute of spiritual transformation and spiritual practice.

Goddess Kali and tantric ritual

Kali is invoked by meditating with her mantra (which is given by a Guru or tantric master) and can be worshipped by the continual gazing upon a yantra (see picture). Working with yantras is a powerful way to calm down the mind and to enter into a trance like state with the Goddess.

The most powerful way to worship Kali is through Tantric erotic ritual. These rituals start with the man worshipping the woman as being the great Goddess herself. Then follows the foreplay and lovemaking acts. After this the man and woman separate and each make a sadhana (spiritual practice) dedicated to the Goddess. This sadhana may consist of Asanas (yoga postures), Pranayamas (breathing exercises) and meditations.

The results of such rituals are deeply profound and will awaken deep mystical processes in the hearts of the lovers.

by Hans Havasi

Why is it important to stop premature ejaculation? A man’s strength, his efficiency, his capacity for action and his vital, mental and spiritual resources are in close connection with his potential sexual energy.

In Taoism and Tantra it is strongly advocated to abstain from losing any seminal fluid. The sexual energy should instead be channelled into finer forms of energy. To reach to the stage where you can successfully channel the energy you have to cure premature ejaculation first.

An experienced Taoist or Tantric practitioner will always be able to refrain from ejaculation during love making through mental focus, relaxation and breathing exercises. For the beginner though certain more radical methods might be necessary if having crossed the famous “point of no return”.

Of these methods, one of the most efficient is called the THREE-FINGERS METHOD This method has its origins in China, and dates back 5,000 years ago. It is a very simple method which anyone can learn. Basically, it stops the loss of semen through pressure applied with the fingers.

When ejaculation is imminent, pull out of your loved one and press the perineum (the area between the anus and penis) with the three middle fingers of your right hand. The pressure will stop the ejaculation mechanism if you apply the technique correctly following these three steps:

1) Start by locating the exact spot: Press the point between the anus and scrotum – this is a “gate” through which the energy comes in and out of the body.

2) Apply medium pressure. As the fingers are quite strong the pressure need not be immense.

3) All three fingers need to be used or the semen will probably pass by in the case you only use one finger. The index and ring fingers must press on both sides of the urethra and the middle finger should be used to apply pressure directly on the urethra.

When To Do It

Immediately after you feel that ejaculation is imminent, pull out of your lover and apply the pressure to stop the fluid. If you wait too long, the pressure will not be enough.

The pressure should be used before, during and after the start of the contracting muscle spasms which precede ejaculation.

Block the “gate” with your fingers until you are absolutely certain that the ejaculation will no longer occur. The result of this blockage is that an important part of the seed will flow back inside the seminal reservoirs it came from.

There is no danger in affecting the internal channels, because the tissues from this area are very elastic and capable of receiving the fluid.

It is normal to think that the seminal reservoir cannot hold the semen if the pressure becomes too big, but luckily this is not the case. When the pressure reaches a certain level several processes will start.

1) The production of semen will become smaller saving energy and nutrients for the body

2) The body has a natural tendency to reabsorb this fluid.

3) The Taoists and Tantrics have perfected a “vaporizing” system, channeling the energy to the upper centers of force, reducing the pressure in the inferior seminal channels and in the prostate.

This process is called transmutation and sublimation.

This process can be compared to boiling water which turns into steam. The water transforms but retains its qualities of water.

Semen is in this way turned into the fine vapours of affection, intuition, mental faculty etc.

by Hans Havasi

Tantrism And Polarity

One of the main principles in the philosophy of Tantra is polarity which states that the universe consists of Shiva and Shakti. Shiva is the masculine principle (Yang) and Shakti is the feminine principle (Yin).

The masculine principle (yang) is beyond the material world. It is spirit and essence. It represents the world of ideas and concepts. It is the yet to be manifested, the Word. Shakti (Yin) is the world, the universe, the material. It can be seen and touched. It is life itself.

Shiva without Shakti is but a corpse, concepts with no “body”, no “life”. Shakti without Shiva is chaos and destruction. It is the universe with no master plan and no essence to keep it together.

Their dance together creates the universe as we know it. Creating it, upholding it and eventually destroying it.

The polarity of Shiva and Shakti exists on all levels of the universe. On the large cosmic scale as huge galaxies (Shakti) revolving around black holes which are singularities (Shiva) around which the galaxies dances.

The dance between Shiva and Shakti can be seen in the couple relationship and even in our own beings as the interplay between our awareness and our bodies.

Shiva is consciousness and Shakti is energy. Shiva is the mirror in which Shakti can see herself.

The Law Of Resonance

Another fundamental tantric teaching is the law of Resonance. As we stated above, the whole visible universe is Shakti, who is vibrating pulsating energy split up in an infinite range of frequencies.

Resonance states that energy which pulsates with the same wave length will attract other energies vibrating with the same frequency (the law of attraction).

An energetic system which vibrates with a certain frequency will automatically start transferring information from another system vibrating in the same frequency.

E.g. if you are happy you will transfer data from other systems which have “happy energy”. You will transfer data from all the people that ever were happy and transmitted happy energy into the universe.

A specific resonance of happiness can be transferred through different media. Music can give you that specific state of happiness, or a certain colour could do the same thing.

If you listen to heavy metal for example you will join the network of all the people who listened to heavy metal and transferred their emotions into that network. You should be careful which resonances you associate with as you are transferring all the data into your being as the people that have associated with that resonance. In this case you might wind up becoming very angry and disharmonious.

Some say that you have to expose yourself to negative energies to become stronger. This may be true but only if you have the consciousness (Shiva) to go through it with awareness. Otherwise you will be overwhelmed and it will do you no good.

You should rather put your attention on the good beneficial energies!

The world of Tantra

Tantrics study and worship Shakti in order to get to the Shiva (essence) behind the Shakti. In their studies they have categorized the world into a large family of Gods and Goddesses. Each deity has a specific vibration or resonance and represents a certain aspect of the universe.

As an example of a range of energies in the same frequency we can mention the concept of compassion. This concept is embodied in the Goddess Tara in the tantric tradition. In our modern western civilisation we do no longer understand the need to represent such a concept with a Goddess.

But deifying an energy has an important function: It enables us to identify easier with the energy as it gains a human face. It is easier to digest and to take in.

Through the process of identification we gain a kind of empathy with the object and start to experience the world through “the eyes of the object”.

Each Goddess has a bija mantra associated with it which has the core vibration of that range of energies associated with the Goddess.

A mantra is a sound which can be repeated internally by the meditator in his worship of the Goddess and is the closest physical representation we have to the bija of the Goddess.

The word Tantra in fact means “Network” as the universe consists of a huge range of energies interconnected to each other. Tantra offers us the opportunity of going into resonance processes with all these energies through its pantheon of Gods and Goddesses and their associated Mantras.

In this way we can identify with any aspect of the universe through mantras and resonance.

Tantra and Music

One of the most powerful mediums of conveying resonance is music.

The artist who enters into a specific resonance composes his music in that resonance and the listener who has the resonance awakened in himself will easily identify with that music.

Music can be created for any idea, concept or Goddess. The composer has to enter into resonance with the object to convey it through music.

In this way the artist can be a priest, a person who through his spiritual practice vibrates with the Bija and who can convey it to other people through the music.

This article will touch upon some, for the most of you, very new concepts. We will speak about the process of composing music for the great tantric Goddess Kali. First off we will give an introduction to who Kali is followed by an introduction to the law of Resonance which is a law that lies at the base of the the law of attraction. The article will end by telling how an artist can use the law of resonance to create his artwork.

Who is Kali?

Kali is the first of the 10 great goddesses in the tantric tradition. She has four arms, black skin, big glaring eyes and has a necklace with severed heads. She can be found in graveyards where she dances on the tombs while laughing at the mortality and pettiness of humans. Her deeper symbolism is that of time and death which are things that we humans fear and that is why she looks so terrible in our eyes.

She is indeed a terrifying sight and if you do not understand death and time you will certainly be terrified by her. Her grace will be revealed to those who actively seek to understand her deeper meaning.

About resonance

One of the most profound teachings of the tantric system is the teaching of resonance. The law of attraction which everyone is speaking about now a days is a subset of this law.

All matter in the universe is energy which vibrates at different frequencies. Two energies that vibrate with the same frequency will be attracted to one another and start to resonate together, meaning that they will start to exchange information and energy between them.

We are continually moving through different resonance spheres during the day and our moods and physical well being is continually being affected by these spheres. If we are in a place where the resonance is “angry” we will ourselves become angry.

If we go to a football game where the energy is wild and excited we will also become wild and excited. If we go to a peaceful and calm place we will also become peaceful.

A landscape, room or color can have a common resonance, each putting us in a similar mood. Music is a very powerful resonator as it can carry very specific resonances and implant those resonances in us.

For example, if you listen to heavy metal you will enter into states of rage, hatred and destruction. You will enter into a state of resonance with the people who made the music and the state that they were in when they made the music. You will enter into resonance with all the people who listen to that music and who resonate with that state. You will start downloading all their negativity and hatred.

Alternatively if you listen to beautiful music you will enter states of beauty and harmony.

One of the quickest ways of entering into a state of meditation with a specific aspect is by meditating with music which has the resonance of that aspect, which is why music is so efficient in “jump starting” us to enter the desired mood.

Resonance and Art

To create an artwork on a specific subject, you have to study that subject. You have to find out which energies are inherent in that subject and you have to meditate upon those energies. Thereby you will through resonance start to amplify those energies in your own being.

By contemplating on the object/subject upon which you wish to create your artwork and through resonance you will thereby become a better channel for the art. The resonance will impregnate the art and will thereby be conveyed to those who in turn contemplate the art. This is the secret to creating masterpieces.

Using resonance to create music for Kali

Studying Kali will bring with it deep meditation and speculation on the subjects of life, death and time. These subjects might indeed be terrifying for those who have not delved more in them.

The music composed by such a contemplation on Kali might therefore convey this mood of terror. Drones, asien tonalities and strong rhythmical elements can aid to these effects.

In the end though, Kali will lead he who contemplates on her to a deeper understanding of the nature of life and death which in turn will lead to a mystical opening of the heart. (These effects can be achieved by string quartets and melodic lines which lead upwards).

We hope that this article was meaningful to you and that you learned a bit more about Kali, resonance and the process of composition with a Goddess!
