There are about 300 million Buddhist around the world. The word comes from budhi or to awaken. It originates about 2,500 years ago when Siddhartha Gotama, known as the Buddha, was himself awakened or enlightened when he was 35 years old.

Hinduism is so old that it cannot be traced to any one individual. Some scholars believe that Hinduism existed even in before 10,000 B.C. The earliest Hindu scripture, The Rig Veda, is thought to date well before 6,500 B.C. The word Hinduism is found in is scriptures. In fact, the term “Hindu” was coined by foreigners who referred to people who lived across the River Indus from them where the Vedic religion is believed to have originated.
